Singapore to Start using K Block Sandwich Wall System |

Danny Chua from Singapore, and Jason Chang from Taiwan recently toured a K Block project at Pattaya, Thailand using a lightweight concrete sandwich panel wall system (perimeter, and exterior and interior walls).
With his 15 story Hotel project in Singapore starting soon, Danny went to the Pattaya site to review the installation steps and procedures so that his project can proceed smoothly and quickly.
Singapore had, many years ago, used bricks and blocks as their main wall building materials. But with the desire to build quicker and with less manpower, they moved to more precast and wall systems products. Today, precast panels and systems walls (ie. gypsum boards, or cement boards) are common place. But, both systems still had problems – precast panels were heavy, and the existing wall systems had sound/ heat and fire ratings that were less than desired, unless an expensive multi-layer approach was used.
Danny Chua – having used most of the walls systems available in Singapore, first met Phoneix SDS at the Architect ’09 trade show. He saw the K Block Lightweight Concrete Wall system and was impressed. Composed of two cement boards, with a core of very low density lightweight concrete this wall system took the speed of building a panel wall and combined it with high performance, low density lightweight concrete core. The panels are installed quickly (using tracks and lightweight frames), and the lightweight concrete core in poured into the wall on site. This combination offered the best of all worlds – one side of the wall is built, then services installed, the outer layer is then added and the lightweight concrete is poured/ pumped into the wall. Finally, the joints are covered and the wall painted. Quick, easy, and provides fantastic heat, sound and fire protection.
